AN e-cigarette shop in Clacton has become the first in the district to offer a service to help people stop smoking.

Vaporever, in West Avenue, has signed Provide’s smoking cessation contract and will work with Tendring Council and Essex County Council to support smokers looking to quit.

Those who want to quit will be given one-to-one support and e-cigarette intervention.

Donna Porter, from Provide, has supported shop manager Kerry Ford to develop the service and they will use their new expertise to provide support to local people.

Kerry said she enjoys helping people to stop smoking.

“Vaping is a logical way to help people give up cigarettes, and everything harmful that comes with them, and move to a healthier alternative,” she added.

“Our stop smoking support will provide a holistic approach to that journey to giving up for good.”

Lynda McWilliams, Tendring Council's cabinet member for health and education, said smoking remains one of the biggest causes of ill health and about 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking every year.

“I am pleased to support this initiative as part of our Livewell Campaign to help people becoming fitter and healthier in Tendring,” she said.

“We are working closely with our public health colleagues at Essex County Council to find innovative ways of helping people to quit smoking.

“I hope that smokers will use this service and ultimately kick the habit, in order to lead healthier and longer lives.”
