THE Tendring branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) has celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The branch held an afternoon tea at Frinton Golf Club to mark the occasion, with more than 100 members, including several previous chairmen, as well as one of the founding members, Doris Hockaday.

Joyce Woodham, the chairman of Essex U3A, gave a talk on how the U3A has been such an inspiration to her over the years.

The Tendring U3A organisation has grown considerably in recent years and currently has more than 500 members and 60 study groups.

Groups range from academic subjects to social activities such as walking, board games and table-tennis.

Monthly meetings are held at Frinton’s McGrigor Hall and Holland Public Hall and feature a wide variety of speakers.

Social events are also arranged throughout the year.
