PLANS to stabilise cliffs along the Clacton and Holland-on-Sea coast have been given the green light by council planners.

Tendring Council says work is needed to repair unstable cliffs in several areas which are prone to shallow landslides between Hazelmere Road and Queensway, and Anglefield and Victoria Road.

The blueprints were approved after going before the council’s planning committee on Tuesday evening.

The council has been working with contractors Mott MacDonald to assess the options available to them and a public exhibition about the proposals was held last year.

Some of the money for the work will come from funds, which were set aside for the £36million coastal protection scheme to renew sea defences and create new beaches, which was completed in 2015 and came in under budget.

Councillors said their only concern is that work – which will include moving some beach huts – is expected to start during the week of the Clacton Airshow.
