PLANS have been submitted for 62 holiday lodges on land behind homes in St John’s Road, Clacton.

Leisure Fame has applied to Tendring Council to put the units on the land as part of an extension to the existing Leisure Glades Caravan Park.

The six-acre site was used as a refuse tip from 1958 until 1974.

Tendring Council had granted permission for 84 homes on the site in January, pending the completion of a legal agreement, and a further planning application for 14 homes on the land to the south, including the proposed access, has also been submitted.

A report says the 62 holiday units will include timber lodges as featured on the neighbouring holiday park.

It added: “The resulting design and layout would ensure that the development will respect the character of and relationship to the landscape and surrounding countryside.”

Residents previously said they were distraught at plans for the 84 homes, which they fear would prevent animals from accessing gardens that currently back onto fields that have become a “wildlife haven”.

A decision is expected by August 8.
