COUNCIL bosses are hoping to help good causes cash in after launching new recycling facilities for books, CDs, DVDs and computer games.

Ten new recycling banks have been launched across the district by Tendring Council.

They are designed to prevent unwanted books and other goods ending up in landfill sites.

Instead they will be re-used with any funds raised going to good causes in the local community and further afield.

The new facilities have been placed next to existing textile banks for clothes recycling.

Council environment boss Michael Talbot urged people to use the banks and said it was a "win-win" way of dealing with unwanted gear.

He said: “Anything which will reduce the amount of waste going to landfill has to be a good thing, particularly with these types of items which are not bio-degradable.

“But not only will it help the environment by avoiding landfill, they will also be re-used and found a new home, while money raised supports those who may be less fortunate than ourselves."

The new media banks have been installed at Clacton Leisure Centre, the Thorpe-le-Soken Scouts car park in Abbey Street, Walton and Great Bentley railway stations, the council's offices at Weeley, Brightlingsea YMCA, Gorse Lane industrial estate in Clacton, Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles Leisure Centre, Mistley Village Hall and Barrack Lane, Harwich.
