What better way to spend a summer’s afternoon than wandering round the beautiful Layer Marney Tower gardens listening to some magical music.
That’s what’s taking place at the historic Tudor gatehouse on July 1 when the venue plays host, for the eighth year running, British Music Day.
Organised by Michael Crabb, during the afternoon there will be organ recitals by David Galbraith in St Mary’s Church, Resonance Recorders will play in the Long Gallery and the girls from Southend High School for Girls will also be performing in the grounds.
Also appearing on the day will be St Mary’s Shoebury Chorale will be singing some very well known pieces, such as Summer is Icumen In, If Ye love Me by Thomas Tallis and Stainer’s, God so Loved the world
Music will range from works from the 13th century right up to the modern day, so there will definitely be something for everyone.
The performers will gather with the audience at the end of the afternoon for a Proms style finale with everyone singing Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory together.
Entrance is the normal admission to the Tower but for more information go on-line at layermarneytower.co.uk or call 01206 330784.
