FAMILIES of the emergency services enjoyed fun in the sun at a free family weekend put on by Clacton Pier.

The event was staged on Saturday and Sunday to thank the emergency services for all their hard work in protecting the local community.

Families of the blue light services had the opportunity to enjoy the attractions and rides at no charge with up to four free wristbands given to each family.

The event was specifically aimed at the police, fire service, ambulance, RNLI and coastguard but also included other NHS staff such as doctors and nurses.

Ewelina Majewska, the pier’s operations director, said the annual event was extremely well supported with around 300 wristbands given out over the weekend.

“It was Clacton Pier’s chance to thank all those who work in the blue light services and do such a fantastic job on our behalf,” she said.

“For those not on duty it was an opportunity to come along with their family and relax and enjoy themselves – and many did just that.

"From all the positive comments received by us the gesture was certainly appreciated.”

For all those who came to the pier over the weekend there was free face painting and entertainment for the children as well as live music at the Boardwalk from Jay Simmons and Sammy B.

Father’s Day was celebrated with free bowling and a cuppa in The Lanes for all dads.

It will be the turn of the armed forces to enjoy a free weekend on the pier on September 22 and 23.
