CLACTON MP Giles Watling has praised mailmen for delivering a constituent’s letter – despite no address being written on the envelope.

Mr Watling, who is also a district councillor for Frinton, received the letter from a resident despite the address simply being listed as “Giles Watling, Frinton”.

The sender also penned “I do not know the address, but someone must know you. Thank you” on the envelope.

Mr Watling found the episode amusing as a similar thing happened to his father – 1940s and 50s film star Jack Watling – who received a fan letter despite having just his name on the envelope.

“It’s amazing – I feel like I’ve finally caught up with my father,” joked Mr Watling.

“Someone once wrote to him at ‘Jack Watling’ and it got to him.

“We all laughed about it for 45 to 50 years.

“I’m very impressed with the Royal Mail for getting the letter to me.

“Our post service is excellent and goes above and beyond to help.

“The sender will get a reply in the next day or two.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are pleased to see that this letter was correctly delivered to Mr Watling despite being unaddressed.

“Our staff know their delivery routes extremely well and will always go the extra mile to get mail to their customers.

“We are very proud to deliver a first class service to all our customers.”
