FRUSTRATED residents have been told that council officials will look into making alternative parking arrangements during major events on Clacton seafront.

Residents called for allocated parking after years of “severe disruption”.

St James’ ward councillor Chris Griffiths said residents living in the Marine Parade West area and at Martello Bay face huge problems with parking during high-profile events such as Clacton Airshow.

The town’s West Greensward has also been used to stage the Ovo Energy Tour of Britain and The Women’s Tour, as well as the Corbeau Seats Rally – the first rally to make use of a new legislation allowing closed road motorsport in England.

Last year’s airshow saw also saw a large increase in security in the wake of terrorist attacks at tourist hotspots abroad and concrete barriers were brought in to block off roads.

Mr Griffiths said the use of concrete blocks and restrictions have caused a “massive disruption” for those trying to get to work or who have home helps.

Tendring Council leisure boss Mick Skeels said the authority is now looking at alternative parking arrangements for residents affected by large-scale events.

The plight of residents was raised at a meeting of the council on Tuesday night.

Mr Skeels said it was an excellent idea to provide alternative car parking for the residents while major events take place.

“These residents have always been so accommodating of such events, which are of great importance to our tourist economy in Tendring,” he said.

“I will ask the council’s parking team to work with the North Essex Parking Partnership to find a way to help these residents to have access to better options during these events, and will ensure measures put in place are effectively communicated to those affected.”
