A RESIDENTS association will be taking to the shores this weekend in a bid to spruce up the coastline.

The Holland Residents' Association (HRA) beach cleaning team will be heading out this Saturday for an informal clean of the bay.

The association is a member of the Marine Conservation Society and uses the regular, informal sessions to highlight the dangers to wildlife and campaign against the use of single plastic items.

Sue Beeney of the HRA said: "The removal of this wide range of man-generated rubbish helps reduce the harm caused to wildlife and the pollution of our seas.

"All too easily a piece of discarded litter, such as fishing line, rubber bands, torn drinks cans and discarded batteries can result in serious injury to animals and, quite often, a slow and painful death.

"Following our monthly clean-ups, Holland-on-Sea and east Clacton beaches certainly do look a lot tidier however, even more rewarding, we have helped to protect the environment.

"We thank Tendring Council once again for kindly agreeing to take away the many sacks of litter."

The team will be meeting at York Road car park at 10am and those attending are asked to bring litter pickers and sacks.
