A VETERAN neighbourhood chairman has chaired his last annual meeting.
John Wright, who has been a central part of the Tendring Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) group for 18 years, will step down to make way for a new chairperson.
At a special meeting on Thursday at Clacton Police Station, Insp Darren Deex of the Tendring Community Policing Team presented John with a certificate and plaque to commemorate his service to the community.
Insp Deex said: "John has reinvigorated the NHW scheme here in Tendring and has brought it into the 21st century.
"Through his commitment and dedication, the scheme has been instrumental in providing us with some excellent intelligence over the years which has led to some significant arrests and convictions.
"On behalf of Tendring Police and the wider community I would like to thank John for his unequivocal support and tireless work.
"He will be greatly missed in this role”.
Jenny Brouard, citizens in policing manager for Essex Police, added: "John has been instrumental in working with and supporting our Essex Police Active Citizens.
“I have worked with John over a number of years and his commitment and dedication is outstanding.”
John will still be involved in NHW as a street co-ordinator and the scheme is still looking for a new chairperson.
