AN animal charity in Little Clacton is appealing for help to rehome crossbreed pooch Clyde.

Clyde has been living at the National Animal Welfare Trust 's centre, in The Street, for almost three years and has seen a constant stream of other dogs come and go.

After waiting so patiently, the staff at the centre is hoping that his own chance of happiness is just around the corner.

When he arrived at the shelter, Clyde was terrified of the world and everyone in it.

He hid away in his kennel for a few days, cowering in his bed.

Animal care assistant Stacey Sheppard said staff at the centre gave Clyde the patience, understanding and space he needed to work out that not everyone is so bad.

She added: “Clyde has grown in confidence every day and has blossomed into the goofy young man we knew he was going to be.

“His cheeky chappy nature and gorgeous smile means there isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t make us all laugh here and he has stamped his mark on all of our hearts.

"He loves his toys, going out on walks and also loves a good cuddle.

“He also enjoys putting that big brain of his to use and is always looking for something new to learn or do.

“For a dog that we struggled to teach to sit, Clyde now knows a multitude of different things and is coming on very well with clicker training.

"The big smile that he shows off with after doing a good job shows it’s not just us who are proud of how far he has come.

“Due to his troubled past, Clyde is still very scared in new situations, but earning his love and trust is so rewarding.

“Things that may seem simple for other dogs can be a big thing for Clyde to cope with but he forms an amazing bond with those he trusts and uses this to help him through the scary things in life.

“Clyde is looking for an adult only home with no other pets and owners willing to offer him the patience, time and love he needs to blossom into the confident and happy member of the family.”
