A GROUP of big-hearted bikers donated hundreds of chocolate eggs to patients who were in hospital over the Easter weekend.

Bikers who meet at Clacton’s Full Throttle Cafe, in St Osyth Road, asked for members of the public to donate cash or Easter eggs to be handed back out to those in need.

In total the group had about 750 eggs which they handed to patients on every ward at Clacton, Harwich and Colchester hospitals.

About 15 bikers set off in convoy on Easter Sunday to hand-deliver the sweet treats.

Spokesman John Rowe said: “It took us all about five and a half hours to deliver all the eggs.

“We turned up at the hospital and people were so happy when they found out the chocolate was for them.

“We just couldn’t believe the response we had. It’s done really really well and we just want to say thank you to all the people that have helped and donated.”

As well as bringing some Easter joy to patients on hospital wards the bikers raised a further £540 a specialist walking frame for Tyler Bassham.

The 11-year-old, of The Close, Harwich, has global development delay and is unable to walk and talk. The frame will help boost the youngster’s mobility.

Dad Lee said: “I just want to say thank you to all of the bikers for their support – they’ve done a brilliant job.

“This type of funding is a one-off for us. We’re still waiting for him to receive the walker but it will help him massively.

“Tyler is also blind and it will help him know if something is in front of him.

“It will help him walk and help him keep his balance.”
