TENDRING Volleyball Club’s women’s team produced a battling performance before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat against Polonia, in the Super 8s.

Having lost to their opponents the previous week in a cup game, the Frinton side came out with a determination to exact revenge.

The teams battled back and forth, tying at 10-10 and then 14-14.

Tendring pulled ahead after a couple of big hits from outside Sarah Edwards and middle blocker Milly Smith.

It was looking like Tendring were going to capture the first set with a score of 23-16.

However, Polonia then went on a service run.

Tendring were unable to find their pace in the passing lanes and the teams stared each other down at 24-24.

With one Tendring error and a kill from Polonia, the London side won the first set 26-24.

The second set saw some big hits from Tendring’s Mechell Daniel, who led her team with six kills.

Setter Lois Chitticks had a few sneaky tips that caught Polonia’s defence off guard, but the force of Polonia’s offence and serve proved a bit much for the Frinton side as they went down 25-18. In the third and final set, Tendring came out ready to fight.

A monstrous kill on a slide set by Skye Gullatt brought the crowd to their feet and Smith quickly followed up the excitement, blocking a swing from Polonia’s middle hitter straight to the floor.

However, the experienced Polonia team remained steady, making very few errors, and they finished the match by winning the third set 25-14.

Overall, it was an exciting contest and one filled with intensity and rivalry.

The teams will play again this Sunday, at Polonia.

Tendring are fifth in the table.

Meanwhile, Tendring’s men breezed to victory in their latest National League division two south match, at home to basement boys London Baks on Saturday afternoon.

They won in straight sets - 25-16, 25-12, 25-14 - and remain top of the table with ten wins out of ten.

The men’s team are now preparing for a double-header of matches this weekend.

After travelling to second-placed New Forest on Saturday (first serve 12pm), they have a match at second-from-bottom Exeter Storm on Sunday (12.30pm).
