A MAN was attacked with a sledgehammer and an axe during a robbery in his own home, a court has heard.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard the victim was at his home in Marine Parade East, Clacton, when two men rushed at him, pinned him to the floor and searched his flat on December 8.

The victim was allegedly repeatedly hit with the weapons by the men, sustaining serious injuries to his eye and body.

Steven Wilson, 29, of Thoroughgood Road, Clacton, Amadu Gbla, 34, of Trafalgar Road, Clacton, and Angela Holland, 41, of no fixed address, entered no pleas to the robbery charge.

Hendrika Tatum, prosecuting, said: “The victim describes being in bed when he heard a window smash.

“He went into the hall and noticed two men in his lounge and the males rushed towards him.

“He tried to run for the door but was struck again and restrained.”

She said he “played dead” so the men stopped.

The court heard two men allegedly carried out the attack while a woman stayed outside the property.

The victim’s wallet, computer equipment, clothing and BMW car were taken in the robbery, the court heard.

The defendants only spoke to confirm their names and address when they appeared yesterday.

The case was sent to Chelmsford Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing next month. All three defendants were remanded in custody.
