Elderly residents have been evacuated from a care home after a fire broke out.

A fire was started accidentally at a residential home in Orwell Road, Clacton.

Crews were called to the residential home after a fire in a third floor bathroom was discovered.

The Essex Fire and Rescue service received a call at 5.10pm on Friday night.

Residents were evacuated and firefighters extinguished the fire by 6.10pm.

Firefighters stayed at the scene to check for hot spots and dampen down the area to ensure it was cool.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.

A nurse who works for the Edensor home said nothing was damaged in the fire.

She said: "Everyone was out in a matter of minutes as staff are fully trained for this type of event.

"We got everything under control within five minutes and everyone was out of the building, which is quite impressive."

The nurse, who wished to remain unnamed, said: "However, staff are fully trained and we would like people not to worry as no one was injured and nothing was damaged.

"We followed procedure perfectly and everything went to plan."
