FIVE people were arrested on suspicion of burglary across Essex as part of a special operation.

Officers from Essex Police's Operational Support Group worked alongside local policing teams and the force's Dog Section on Saturday morning to arrest individuals linked to a number of burglaries.

A 41-year-old man, from Harwich, was arrested on suspicion of a burglary in Kings Meadow Road, Colchester, in May, but he was later released without charge and faces no further action.

James Zammutt, 26, unemployed, of no fixed address, was charged with a burglary in Wickham St Paul on September 29, in which a wallet and cash were stolen, and two burglaries in Saham Toney and Griston in Norfolk, which took place in September 17 and October 19 respectively.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday October 30.

A 14-year-old boy from Rochford was charged with a burglary in East Street, Rochford, on September 27 in which two rings were stolen.

He was also charged with a burglary in which a watch was stolen and vehicle interference in Weir Pond Road, Rochford, on October 19.

He is due to appear at Basildon Youth Court on November 28.

A 51-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man, both from Hatfield Peverel, were arrested on suspicion of a burglary at an address in Humber Road, Witham, on September 29. They have been released under investigation.

Superintendent Andy Mariner, said: “These arrests are just a small example of the ongoing work by Essex Police to tackle burglary and bring offenders to justice.”
