A MAN is in a life-threatening condition after being stabbed multiple times in Jaywick.

The man sought refuge in Jaywick Post Office, in Beach Way, following the incident, which happened at about 11.40am today.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to the scene and the police helicopter was spotted in the skies above the area.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Police were called to Beach Way with reports that a man had been seriously injured.

“He was airlifted to hospital in a life threatening condition.

“Officers are currently still on scene, and enquiries are progressing. No arrests have been made.

“There is not believed to be a risk to the wider public.”

It understood that staff from the post office came to the aid of the man, who had been stabbed in the leg, after he sought refuge in the branch.

The staff then summoned help from the emergency services.

A spokesman for the Post Office said: “We can confirm that an incident took place near Jaywick Post Office this morning.

"Jaywick Post Office is closed this afternoon whilst the police carry out investigations in the area.

“We would like to thank customers in advance for their understanding whilst the branch remains closed.

"The nearest alternative post office is at Tudor Parade, Jaywick.”

Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were also spotted at Clacton Airfield in nearby West Road.

One resident, who did not want to be named, added: “There were a lot of police about.

“I counted at least four police cars and ten officers at the post office and the police helicopter was circling overhead.

“The post office was cordoned off and so was the alleyway towards the beach.

“I use that shop all the time - the staff are always friendly in there.

“This is a great community and it’s really concerning that something like that could happen here.”

Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet made themselves known to officers, is asked to contact Clacton CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
