A 22-YEAR-OLD cyclist was left lying in the road following a hit-and-run collision on the A133 near Weeley.

The collision between the cyclist and the car happened under the Rectory Road bridge shortly before 12pm on Sunday.

A car collided with a bicycle while it was travelling towards Weeley.

The driver failed to stop and left the cyclist lying in the road.

Other drivers stopped at the scene to help the man.

He was treated by paramedics and was taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital for treatment.

He was discharged the following day with minor injuries.

Investigating officer PC John Holmes said the car was a Citroen and possibly white or grey in colour and was missing the nearside door mirror.

“This is a very callous and cowardly act where the occupants of the car have knowingly left the cyclist lying in the road," he said.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision or have dash cam footage."

Witnesses should call Stanway Road Policing Unit on 101.
