A public consultation over controversial plans for 240 homes in Kirby Cross has been postponed.

Tending Council refused outline permission for the development at Willow Farm in Halstead Road but the ruling was overturned on appeal last year by a planning inspector.

Linden Homes plans to consult residents over the lay-out and appearance of the new homes.

The development also includes a care home or healthcare facility, children's play area and open space.

There will also be access from Woburn Avenue and Buckfast Avenue and public parking for up to 30 cars on Halstead Road.

There was fierce opposition to the housing from resident.

Kirby Residents' Association chairman Ray Enever spearheaded the fight.

He predicted "absolute chaos" on the roads when the homes are built and said "democracy died" the day the proposals were given the green light.

A consultation meeting was due to take place in Kirby Cross today but has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

People can view the proposals online at willow-farm.co.uk.

Tendring Council will have the final say on the development.
