A SPECTACULAR Hindu ceremony celebrating elephant god Ganesh returns to Clacton this weekend.

The Ganesha Visarjan festival marks the end of ten days of prayer and celebration.

Offerings are made to Ganesh and a statue of the elephant god is carried into the sea and immersed in the water.

The Hindu Cultural and Heritage Centre in Clacton has been supporting the ceremony for the last seven years.

Hundreds of people attend the colourful event.

The festival takes place on the beach by Clacton Pier on Sunday, September 10, from 11am to 4pm.
