A TOP teacher is celebrating after ALL her GCSE maths class achieved straight A grades for the second year in a row.

Ania Kolendo and her former class are still in disbelief after they all achieved grade 9s, grade 8s and grade 7s in their Maths GCSE.

The new gradings are the equivalent to A*s and As.

For this year’s GCSEs the Government introduced a new grading system which will gradually see all A* to G grades replaced with a 9 to 1 system, with 9 being the highest mark.

The Maths and English exams were this year harder than ever as the Government sought to define the top achievers.

Miss Kolendo, who has been teaching at Manningtree High School for the past six years, said she was so proud to see 14 of her students achieve grade 9s, seven achieve grade 8s and eight achieve grade 7s.

Last year, her class also achieved record-breaking results for Manningtree High School with her class getting 22 A*s, and seven As.

A modest Miss Kolendo said: “I am amazed with the results again and so proud of my students.”

Miss Kolendo taught the class for only a year as the previous teacher was on maternity leave.

Despite being apprehensive about the new grading system her students excelled.

She said: “I received emails from two girls who just couldn’t thank me enough and they can’t believe they did so well.

“One of them got grade 9 and the other got grade 8.”

One of the students who emailed her said: “I just wanted to thank you so much for all the help and encouragement you have given me over the last year.

“I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done if it wasn’t for you.

“Never have I ever known a teacher so passionate about the subject she teaches and your love for maths has started to rub off on me.”

Miss Kolendo said they key to teaching is setting very high expectations from day one, setting lots of work and doing exam papers.

She added: “It is important to offer positive and constructive feedback after each mock exam and believing in every single student .

“All these things had an impact on the fantastic results and helped students to perform to their highest ability with confidence.”
