CROWDS gathered to catch a glimpse of the famous donkey derby event as part of the week long Clacton Carnival event.
The Clacton Carnival Association has been working tirelessly for the last year to create a fun-filled week this summer and the famous donkey derby event, which took place at Alton Park school, drew in hundreds of spectators who had a flutter on the jockeys hoping to make it to first place.
The derby saw young jockeys take to their steeds to race around the track.
Organiser Laura Durrant, said: “There was a great crowd and everyone had a good time.
“There were lots of games to play and little children were able to have their own donkey ride.”
Laura also thanked main sponsor Splat Messy Play and those who sponsored donkeys.
Those who weren’t able to join in the event were able to have a donkey ride of their own The rest of carnival week includes tonight’s fete and live music event at Alton Park Junior School, tomorrow afternoon’s children’s fancy dress competition at St James’ Church Hall and Sunday’s Clacton half marathon.
