DOZENS of dogs will be performing their top tricks to try to impress judges at a show for canines over the weekend.

Acorn Village, a charity for adults with learning disabilities, is running its annual dog show tomorrow.

Now in its fifth year, the show is set to have more variety than ever before with a broader range of dog competition classes, as well other entertainment throughout the day.

Among others, there will be competition classes for the perfect pup, golden oldie, best rescue, handsome hound, waggiest tail and best trick.

The will also be a classic car display, bouncy castles, family and pet portraits, a barbecue and live entertainment.

Kate Williams, marketing coordinator, said the event attracts hundreds of visitors at any one time during the show.

She said: “We are quite lucky that we are supported by about 25 volunteers for the event as well as great sponsors.

“The vets who judge the competition are very good and always look for the healthiest and happiest dogs competing.”

The panel of vets who judge the show are from Highcliff Veterinary Practice, in Factory Lane, Manningtree.

Kate added: “The most important part of the event is that is it fun and friendly so people can relax and enjoy themselves.

“The biggest highlight is raising money for people with learning disabilities.”

In previous years the show has raised £3,400 and organisers are hoping a similar figure can be raised at the weekend.

All profits from the show go back into Acorn Village.

The event is being held at the charity in Clacton Road, Mistley, between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, August 5.
