THE second annual Maylandsea water fight proved a huge success as the event raised more than £500 for charity.

The event, organised by friends Dan Williams and Jay Stammers, was held in the village on Sunday.

More than 300 people turned out to take part and raise money for Jessica Morris, three, who suffers from Retts Syndrome.

Between them, the competitors managed to raise £543.

Dan said: “Myself and Jay are overwhelmed with the amount of support we received for the water fight again this year. It is so nice to know we live in a village with more than 300 other nutty war hungry villagers.

“All joking aside, well done to everyone who took part for acting like big kids and joining in with a community family event.

“For something that started off as just banter between myself and Jay, I never imagined I would see hers of families dragging buckets of water balloons and water guns to the battlefield over the local park.”
