A THRILLSEEKER who became the first person to windsurf solo around Britain could scoop £20,000 after being shortlisted for a major new book prize.

Jono Dunnett, from Holland-on-Sea, wrote Long Standing Ambition after circumnavigating around the British Isles in 2015.

He sailed into the record books after completing the epic 2,000-mile voyage in 98 days with no support.

Now a self-penned book about his adventures has been shortlisted for Amazon’s first UK Kindle Storyteller Award.

Long Standing Ambition was one of just six chosen from thousands of entries.

The competition was open to authors who published their book through Kindle Direct Publishing on Amazon earlier this year.

The winning author will receive a £20,000 cash prize, dedicated marketing campaign, and the chance to have their book translated for readers around the world.

Jono, 43, is currently is currently on his second solo windsurfing challenge - an astonishing bid to sail 15,000km around the coast of Western Europe.

The dare-devil windsurfer carries all his gear on his board, relying on well-wishers for a bed for the night or sleeping under his sail.

"The book was written primarily for my mother," he said.

"I considered it to be a letter that explained ‘who I am’."

A panel of judges, including actress and literacy campaigner Lily Cole, will choose the winning book which will be announced at an exclusive ceremony at the Ned Hotel in London later this month.
