A MAN in his 70s was hit by a car following a crash in Maldon High Street.

The man was hit by a car shortly after 1pm this afternoon, between North Street and Coach Lane.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene but later told they wouldn't be needed.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Maldon High Street.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew to the scene but were advised by Essex Police that we would not be required as the patient was not seriously injured.

"It was a gentleman in his 70s who was conscious and breathing."
