POLICE are warning members of the public to be vigilant after reports of a group of people offering to fill in potholes.
The group claim they have tarmac left over from a previous job and can fill in the holes for a fee.
Sergeant Paul Downes said: “If you are approached by someone offering to fill in potholes I urge you not to agree to the work.
“The group lays a strip of tarmac and are charging, in some cases, several thousands of pounds.
“They are also threatening violence if you refuse to pay.
“The work is of poor quality and the prices are way above average for this work.”
It follows incidents in the Dengie and Tendring areas and is thought the group are moving through county offering the service.
Anyone who is approached by this group should refuse the work and contact Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
