A BID to buy a special £6,500 bed for a disabled teenager has received a major boost.

Tommy Harvey, ***15***, has severe cerebral palsy and suffers from seizures, curvature of the spine and double dislocated hips.

Therapists say a special bed would let him sleep on his side or back fully supported and be a massive boost for Tommy, from Clacton.

Mum Bev launched an appeal and supporters living on Sacketts Grove residential park have risen to the challenge, raising a massive £1,700.

The park's Grove Club has held a fundraising night with entertainers Roy Greene, Kelly Knight, Sax and the Voice, and DJ Mart.

Play Your Cards Right players also donated their winnings to the appeal.

Tommy was born with brain damage.

When he was still a baby a scan revealed the central part of his brain had suffered severe trauma and was just fluid.

He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three, and also had problems affecting his spine.

Club boss Denise Grove was also born with a milder form of cerebal palsy.

The club also raised £700 for Tommy at a Christmas bazaar last year.

Denise said: "Tommy's cousin works here

Everyone just rallied round. Some bought in TVs to be raffled or gave money.

"A couple of guys gave a couple of hundred pounds.

"We've raised more than I thought we would. It's been brilliant.

"Tommy's mum couldn't speak when we gave her the cheque - she was crying."

Bev, of West Road, said: "***********************************."
