HUNDREDS of parents enjoyed a free family weekend with their children at Clacton Pier.

Over two days, 500 wristbands were handed out so families of the emergency services could experience the attractions and rides at no cost.

The initiative was particularly for families working with the emergency services plus the RNLI and coastguard as a thanks for their hard work protecting the community.

As well as rides, musical entertainment was staged in front of the Boardwalk and the pier.

Adam Westall, a Clacton police officer, said: “The family had a brilliant time and we are grateful for the gesture.”

Pier director Billy Ball said: “Lots of families made the most of the chance to come and relax.

“This weekend has been put on for several years but this year was particularly special given the horrific incidents the emergency services have had to deal with over recent months.

“I hope they had great fun with us and made the most of some quality time together in the sun.”

On September 23 and 24 it is the turn of the Armed Forces.
