BRAVE villagers hopped on the waxing table to help raise cash for a new school climbing frame.

The fundraising Pain and Pudding event was held at the Maybush Inn pub in Great Oakley on Friday.

Volunteers came away with a lot less hair than they arrived with while onlookers enjoyed tucking into donated puddings.

Chris Scutt, one of the organisers, said: “The night was held to raise money for a new climbing frame at All Saints Primary School in Great Oakley.

“The one they have now is about 20 years old so its time for a new design modern climbing frame, which i think is expected to cost about £15,000 to £20,000.”

Four men were waxed as part of the event, which raised about £508.

Mr Scutt added: “It was a great night, well attended and with lots of pain.

“It’s a small pub but it was full and there were lots of puddings to sell.

“But there is a lot of fundraising to go, though I think they will be looking at applying for grants to help fund the new climbing frame too.”
