THE UK lost a world champion at the weekend.

Kell Brook conceded his IBF world welterweight title to American Errol Spence Junior.

Kell suffered another broken eye socket and took a knee in the 11th and penultimate round.

I’m disappointed to hear the criticism of some fans about Kell ‘quitting’.

Clearly, those critics have never fought in a world title contest with a broken eye socket!

They can’t be real boxing fans or have any real idea of the sport.

Kell is married with children and I’m sure he would want to be able to visibly see them every day.

Fighting on with such a dangerous injury could have been very, very damaging.

I’m sure doctors must have warned Kell, after the Golovkin fight, what could have happened if he had been allowed to carry on.

That, being in the back of his mind, probably played a big part in his decision to retire.

Against GGG in September last year, Brook suffered from the same injury and would have continued bravely but his corner threw in the towel in the fifth round.

Giving up his title that he has held since August 2014 would have been the hardest thing for him as he is a consummate professional and remarkable sportsman.

If you could choose between being healthy or being the champ then I know which I would choose.

Being the champion wouldn’t be so great if you were blind in one eye!

I hope those ‘so-called’ boxing fans that mocked him remember that next time they voice their fickle opinions.

My next fight is just one week away on June 10.

I’ll be in a four-rounder against an unbeaten opponent at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.

It’s the very last chance to buy tickets so if you would like a good night out at a famous boxing venue then get in touch with me on Facebook.

I’m up against unbeaten Milos Kubena (1-0-1) from the Czech Republic, who looks very good in his fights that I’ve seen on YouTube.

He comes forward throwing lots of shots and looks like he has some power, so I’ll be on my guard and at my very best on the night to come through with another win on to set me up for my British Challenge belt fight on September 9.

I’d like to congratulate Richie Wells and Lewis Thomas on their wins last weekend at a Golden Gloves Promotions show in Southend.

Richie won his debut and Lewis won his third fight after a few years away.

Both of them left nothing in the gym and proved that dedication produces success.

I’m very proud of them both. Three months of hard work paid off.
