STATIC pitches for travellers have been given the go-ahead for a site off the A133 at Great Bentley.

The scheme for five pitches has been put forward for land at the back of Woodfield Bungalow in Colchester Road.

The site is part of a former van sales area and enclosed by a 2.3 metre high metal palisade fence.

It is an isolated location with a small cluster of buildings including a petrol station, the Pit Stop vehicle garage and an existing five-pitch traveller site.

Access to the site is via the A133 and the plans feature a loop road to serve the new caravan pitches, each with a parking space.

A spokesman for Tendring Council said: “This scheme would help to meet the recognised need for pitches in the area and is on land that has been allocated for traveller pitches.

“The proposal would not harm the amenity of neighbours and there are no highway safety issues identified.”

The application was approved with ten conditions including landscaping, lighting restrictions and no commercial activities to take place.

Neither Great Bentley or Little Bentley parish councils objected and no other representation were received.
