A BABY was found dead in bed by his devastated parents.

Michael Adam Nathan Bearder was six-weeks-old when his mother woke to feed him and realised he was not breathing.

Despite calling for an ambulance and everyone doing all they could he died, an inquest heard.

The cause of death will never be known with Michael’s death being categorised as sudden infant death syndrome.

Coroner’s officer David Barritt, speaking at Essex Coroner’s Court said Michael died on March 8 at a home in Clacton.

He told the court the baby was born on January 22, four days premature at Colchester General Hospital.

He said: “He was born by normal delivery and remained in hospital for one week with a lung infection and jaundice before being allowed home with his parents.”

The court heard, on March 7, he was dressed in a baby suit with a blanket and pillow in his parent’s bed.

Mr Barritt said: “At 5.30am the following day he was found unresponsive by his mother when she woke for his early morning feed.”

The parents and paramedics tried CPR but Michael could not be saved.

Essex Police investigated and there were no suspicious circumstances.

Essex Area Coroner Eleanor McGann said: “This poor little boy was born a little bit prematurely.

“The hospital did manage to save him and he was able to go home, however, he was not a well boy.

“His parents, thinking they were doing their very best wrapped him up carefully and put him in the bed.

“They were very worried about him. Everything shows he was looked after properly.

“There was a thorough investigation by police and there was nothing suspicious.

“Everything that could be done for this baby was done.”

Sudden infant death syndrome is where a child under the age of one dies for reasons which remain unexplained even following a post mortem examination.

An expert examination failed to find a reason for Michael’s death and an open verdict was recorded.

His parents chose not to attend the inquest.
