OLYMPIC walkers were amongst 300-strong racers who took part in the revived Frinton and Walton Fun Run and Half Marathon.

It was a perfect day for sports as the event coincided with a match at Frinton Cricket Club, where participants including twin walking stars Dom and Daniel King, sped off from the starting line for a looped course along Frinton’s promenade to Walton’s Naze Tower.

Jon Warren and Hamford Primary Academy’s A-Team were crowned winners of the two races with Mr Warren getting back in 1 hour 21 minutes.

In the fun run, Matthew Brayshaw won the under 17s category with Henry Goodwin winning the under 12s.

Spokesman Chris Opperman said: “It was a tremendous event for the towns which rose to the occasion.

“The fact everything went so well made all our efforts and worries worthwhile.

“Rotarian Keith Hockridge was the inspiration behind it all. Not only did he organise it and get us into order, he also ran the half marathon.

“People loved the course and the scenic side of things made up for the hard graft.”

About 130 children entered the shorter two-mile run which Mr Opperman said made the event “extra special”.

The proceeds of the event will help residents through the Frinton Rotary Community Fund.

Mr Opperman said: “The races will be on the map for next year.”
