Eyewitness Nicola O’Brian saw the events unfold from her home.

Her Volkswagen Beetle was one of two vehicles damaged by the driver during the collision.

“He continued to reverse over my car, clipped a small tree and reversed in an arch almost full circle until he hit it again. The KA in front was written off.”

Staff members at furniture store Harwoods of Essex also saw the collision.

A spokesperson for the company said: “What happened was tragic. Everyone here wishes her well and a speedy recovery. All our thoughts are with the family.”
