A CRIME-FIGHITNG scheme aimed at tackling shop-lifting in Tendring is set to be relaunched.

Tendring Business Against Crime – Tenbac – sees store bosses, the police, community safety partnership and Tendring Council come together to tackle crooks who target shops.

The group also runs a Facewatch programme to keep an eye out for known crooks.

Insp Darren Deex, of Clacton police, met with the Tenbac board members to finalise plans on reinvigorating the scheme.

“An effective Tenbac initiative is vital in providing a sustainable crime and antisocial behaviour reduction scheme for the business community,” he said.

“This is about how the business community, in partnership and with support from the local police and other organisations, can empower and protect themselves against those who commit crime and antisocial behaviour against them.”

It is hoped the relaunch will see more businesses sign up to tackle shoplifting.

Tenbac chairman Malcolm Jarvis said: “Tenbac is here, operational and we are working hard to get the scheme back working effectively.

“We intend on banning those offenders from businesses signed up to Tenbac and our message is clear – repeat offenders will be dealt with robustly”.
