A DAD has organised a fundraising fishing match to give back to the charity that supports his family when his daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Life changed forever for Ashley and Michelle Horne, of Holbeck Road, Canvey, when their daughter Mia was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011.

Mr Horne, 34, said: “It was awful. She hadn’t felt very well for a little while, she had been complaining of headaches and she couldn’t see properly but every time we went to the hospital or the doctor they said it was down to a viral infection.

“But one time we went and the doctor just knew what it was. He did a scan and she had a brain tumour.”

Mia went through 18 months of chemotherapy and multiple brain surgeries in a bid to battle the cancer.

During her treatment, the Indee Rose Trust supported Mia, her sister Ruby, now six, and her parents and delivered treasure boxes of goodies - which Mr Horne said was “wonderful.”

He said: “During a tough time the Indee Rose Trust just makes you smile. Mia was having a rough time of it and the treasure box brightened her day when she felt so poorly.

“So we want to give something back as they make so many families feel a little bit better during a difficult time.”

Mia, now 11, is now happily in remission but Mr Horne wants to give something back to the Indee Rose Trust - which was established in honour of Indee Rose Dopson, who died aged three, of a brain tumour.

The charity now raises thousands of pounds to bring joy to youngsters battling brain tumours in hospital and their families.

Mr Horne will hold the fishing match and fun day at Canvey Lake on August 12. The final details are yet to be set but anyone interested should contact Mr Horne on Facebook via Canvey Lake page.
