A MUM has spoken of how touched she is that Canvey residents still pull together to honour her son, who died of brain and spinal cancer.

The Danny Green Fund was launched in 2012 after 11-year-old Danny Green died after losing his battle with cancer just eight months after his diagnosis.

Now, five years later, his mum Lisa Green, who launched the charity with her husband Chris, has said she is delighted to learn that the Canvey Football Club will host its second sponsored walk in aid of the charity this summer.

The support is extra poignant as the youngster, who would have turned 16 this year, was due to be signed with Canvey Football Club before his diagnosis.

She said: “It’s really lovely that the club is doing this.

“He was due to be signed so it was lovely to be able to carry on that link to the club and the community.

“They have been a big support to the fund since we lost Danny.

“It’s quite touching that five years later they are still supporting us.

“They will be starting the walk in Thorney Bay and will walk along the sea front to the football club and then back again.

“They will have a fun day at the other end.”

Last year the walk - the first of its kind - managed to raise £2,669.81 and organisers hope to raise just as much, if not more, this year.

Lisa said: “They raised an amazing amount of money this year.

“It was a really lovely day as well, walking along with all of the children and families from the club.

“A lot of the children didn’t know Danny but they say they feel like they did - they say they like doing thing for Danny.

“My husband Chris and I plan to join them again this year on the walk.”

She added: “We are so grateful of all of the people who have supported us - it’s wonderful so many people him and carry on in his memory."

The Danny Green Fund now aims to support youngsters battling posterior fossa syndrome, a neurological condition which can occur after brain tumour surgery.
