FRUSTRATED residents told how their houses shake when buses and lorries drive past because a road is so badly damaged.

People living in Luncies Road, Basildon, want the whole road to be resurfaced. Essex Highways repaired 12 potholes last summer, but residents claim the road is littered with bumps once again.

Motorcyclist Dan Duke, 32, rides his bike down Luncies Road on an almost daily basis. He worries bikers are at risk of being thrown from their vehicles because of the potholes.

He said: “The state of it is terrible. It’s not even a small area of road which needs repair it’s pretty much the entire length of it.

“There are a lot of cars which park on one side and the pot holes are right in the middle of the road where you would pass them.

“I ride my motorbike there and there are such big chunks I have to be really careful; if I hit one, even if I was going at a moderate speed like 20mph, there is no way I could control the bike and I would come off.

“I think its where the buses are coming down, it’s just ripping the road up. The whole road needs to be sorted out.”

His wife Abigail Duke added: "The emergency services use our road as well.

"If someone is in an ambulance in a critical condition the condition of the road and the bumps can't be good for them."

Martin Ager, 46, who lives in Luncies Road, said the state of the carriageway has got worse every year. He said: “The road is abysmal. There is a bus route which runs through there and the road is awful.

“The bumps are so bad that when the buses and lorries go past, all of our rows of houses shake, they literally shake.

“It’s so bad the road is all over the place. I can’t imagine what it is like to ride a bike down there.”

Taxi driver Ralph Morgan, 74, who lives in nearby Sandon Road, is also fed up. He said: “Last year they repaired some of the road and patched it up but there is lots which still needs to be done.

“I drive down there nearly every day and it’s quite uncomfortable for some of my passengers too as it is so bumpy. We all really do hope it gets fixed soon.”

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “We repaired 12 potholes with patches in June last year and carried out further patching in July over a whole section of Luncies Road. There are a few more recent defects and one or two of those are unsightly but not a significant safety issue.

“As a Priority 2 route, Luncies Road is inspected in detail every three months and any safety-critical issues are logged and fixed.”
