A MAN who hanged himself from a vice at his workshop may not have meant to kill himself, an inquest ruled.

Area Coroner Eleanor McGann gave an open verdict following the inquest into the death of 41-year-old Brian Keeney in Clacton.

Coroner’s Officer Joe Lagrossi, speaking at Essex Coroner’s Court, said Mr Keeney died on January 9.

He said: “He told a friend he would be back in 45 minutes but he found him in the workshop.

“Police arrived and confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances.

“His family explained he would use cocaine but was not a big drinker.” A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as hanging and cocaine intoxication.

Mrs McGann said: “I am satisfied this was a deliberate act. I am satisfied he died as a result but I am not satisfied when he did it he intended to die.

“He left no suicide note, there was no indication at all.”

An open verdict was recorded.
