A DRIVER died after suffering a suspected heart attack at the wheel of his car in Clacton.

Emergency services were called to reports that a Citroen had hit a wall in Coppins Road on yesterday just after 4.10pm.

The driver – a man in his 70s – had suffered a suspected heart attack.

The ambulance service said paramedics were at the scene within five minutes of the call and battled to save the victim, who was was unconscious and not breathing An ambulance service spokesman said: "There was one patient at the scene.

It looks like he had a medical episode in the car and was confirmed to be in cardiac arrest.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone involved he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our thoughts at this time are with his family and friends."

A police spokesman said: "We were called just after 4.10pm on Thursday following reports of a vehicle colliding with a wall in Coppins Road.

"Officers attended and found a man aged in his 70s unwell in his silver Citroen Xsara Picasso. Sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene."

The dead man has not been named.
