AN elderly driver surrendered his licence to the police after crashing his car into a garden wall.

The accident happened this afternoon in Thorpe Road, Kirby Cross.

The driver - believed to be local and in his eighties - was uninjured but was persuaded to surrender his driving licence to the police.

Police community support officer Matt Ladkin was at the scene.

He said: "We can test people's eyesight at the roadside and they have the option of surrendering their licence or us requesting the DVLA give them a medical.

"If they fail that the DVLA can withdraw their licence. He decided he'd had enough of driving and surrendered his licence."
