THE search is on for green-fingered volunteers to help keep popular open spaces and gardens looking their best in Tendring.

There are a host of sites maintained by Tendring Council and some locations have nationally recognised prestigious Green Flags.

Green Flag sites around the district are Clacton Seafront and Gardens, Crescent Gardens in Frinton, Weeley Crematorium and Cliff Park in Dovercourt.

Community involvement is part of the criteria under the scheme the council is looking for volunteers to play their part this season.

A number of residents have already been chosen by the council - but more are needed.

Michael Talbot, Tendring Council's cabinet member for environment, said it is important for the council to be able to show public engagement at the sites if they are to retain their accolades again this year.

He said:“Anyone coming forward will be working alongside our own open space rangers on the vital upkeep of these prominent areas.

“It may also involve providing support at events, bird watching, tree and bulb planting, or litter picking. There are a whole variety of tasks to get involved with.

“These open spaces are enjoyed by a large number of residents – as well as thousands of visitors and they are a major part of what we offer the community.”

The council’s open space rangers will continue to do the majority of the work but volunteers will provide support.

Various schools and community payback already help at some sites as well as Frinton in Bloom at Crescent Gardens and the Harwich Society at Cliff Park.
