YOUTHS who broke into a village pavilion twice in one weekend could be named and shamed after they were caught on CCTV.

Parish councillors in Little Clacton say they are determined to "nip the problem in the bud" after burglars got into the building at Parish Fields.

More than £200,000 has recently been spent on new facilities at the site.

Council chairman John Cutting said: "We have spent a lot of money refurbishing the pavilion and doing it up.

"Fortunately they didn't do too much damage in there and we've got CCTV images of them which we have handed to the police."

The site is covered by high-definition CCTV cameras, which recorded one of the break-ins at 6pm on Saturday.

Mr Cutting said: "They broke in through the windows so we have had them reinforced so they can't get in.

"We have spent £200,000 upgrading the pavilion and when this sort of thing happens it leaves a bitter taste in the

mouth.

"They are ruining it for other people who use the pavilion."

Mr Cutting urged people to report any suspicious activity in the area.

"We are very proud of our village and put a lot of effort into it," he said.

"There is no need for this sort of thing and we need to nip it in the bud.

"Over the last four years we have put in new changing rooms, high-spec showers and toilets.

"We are just finishing the last phase of it and hopefully over the next couple of years we will upgrade the tennis courts and put in astroturf for the kids.

"So when people get in and do this, it's not right.

"It's just mindless vandalism. But you only need a couple of people mucking about to go too far and what seems like a bit of fun can become a complete disaster."

He added: "We really need to knock it on the head and make them aware that it is covered by CCTV. If the police don't anything, we will name and shame them."
