Train services were hit last night, including one to Clacton, after a man was killed on the line at Ardleigh.

The service was one from Liverpool Street station to the town in the evening, following the death around 5pm.

British Transport Police said today that inquiries continuing into the death of a man who was struck by a train at Ardleigh.

British Transport Police report that its officers were called to the railway line close to Manningtree Station on Friday.

Officers from the BTP and Essex Police attended the incident which was reported to the BTP at 5.47pm.

Medics from the local ambulance service also attended the scene, where the man was pronounced deceased.

The are no suspicious circumstances.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

The train involved was a Liverpool Street to Ipswich service.

BTP say the line was handed back to Network Rail at 7.15pm.

The incident caused much disruption to services.

Alternative bus services were laid on.
