DETERMINED Frinton residents have delivered a list of demands to tackle congestion and frustration in their prized Connaught Avenue.

More than 300 people took part in a survey by the Frinton Residents' Group, which has now passed on the wish list to Essex County Council.

Residents have long complained of congestion in Connaught Avenue with lorries making deliveries during the day and wing mirrors being broken off vehicles by passing traffic.

A range of possible solutions were offered through the association’s newsletter which is distributed to 5,000 homes.

Chairman Neil Churcher said more than 90 per cent of more than 300 people who responded wanted to have a 20mph speed limit in the road.

They also want to retain the two-hour parking limit, to ban delivery vehicles between 10am and 4pm, to have new signs directing cars and coaches to the seafront via Queens Road, and to direct delivery vehicles to use service roads.

He said: “An outstanding number, over 98 per cent, wanted businesses to instruct suppliers to use service roads and wanted a ban on coaches entering the shopping area at any time.

"From the point of delivering more businesses to retailers, 184 people said they would use the shops more if parking and accessibility were easier, and 122 shopped elsewhere because of the road being blocked at busy times of the day.

“Suggestions for herringbone parking and speed bumps did not prove to be popular."

Mr Churcher added Essex County Council has now promised it will fund new signs in Connaught Avenue during the next financial year.

He said: “Now we need to press for implementation of the other improvements required by residents.”
