HOLLYWOOD star Jim Carrey has been branded “disgusting and dishonest” by the grieving mother of his former girlfriend.

Brigid Sweetman, who lives in Clacton, sued actor Mr Carrey for the wrongful death of her daughter Cathriona White just over a year ago.

In those proceedings, she also repeated allegations the star had given the make-up artist three sexually transmitted diseases.

But now 54-year-old Mr Carrey has filed a counter lawsuit against Ms Sweetman and her family claiming Ms White was prone to inventing stories in a “vindictive way” when she was upset.

In a statement he added Ms White had become jealous over the amount of time he was spending with his daughter, who was in hospital.

Ms Sweetman’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti, challenged the actor’s response.

He said: “Jim Carrey filed a baseless motion with the court as part of his continued attack on a grieving mother.

“His conduct is disgusting and dishonest. Who attacks a mother of a dead girl?”

Along with his statement, Mr Carrey provided pictures of the pair together and copies of two suicide notes apparently written by Ms White, in which she described herself as being “not for this world”.

Mr Avenatti added: “Carrey and his ‘fixer’ lawyers are trying to deceive the media and the public.

“They are making up facts they know to be untrue in an effort to save Carrey’s career, which was over when he lied about not having STDs.”

Mr Avenatti also alleged Mr Carrey took STD tests in 2013 under the false name Jose Lopez and called for the release of those results.

Ms White died in September last year after taking an overdose of pills.

Lawyers for Mr Carrey have previously said the allegations against him are “bogus” and “categorically disputed”.
