HAVING first drawn in music lovers during Britpop's heyday in the mid-Nineties, V Festival has evolved significantly over its 20 years to become one of the country's premiere pop parties.

This weekend, global superstars including Justin Bieber and Rihanna will entertain tens of thousands of fans at Hylands Park, Chelmsford.

But a decade ago, the headlining duo would have been care-free kids ten years ago when the star acts attracted a rather more mature crowd.

Radiohead and Morrisey headlined the main stage in 2006, with other high profile performers including Faithless, Paul Weller, Kasabian and Fatboy Slim.

There were some future stars playing low-key sets on the lesser stages, including Paulo Nutini, Lily Allen, James Morrison and Jamie T.
