A 20-YEAR-OLD man has died after his car collided with a tipper lorry.

The incident happened on the B1035 Clacton Road between the A120 Horsley Cross roundabout and Steam Mill Road this morning.

The man was driving a black Fiat Punto and the engine caught fire in the crash.

Essex Fire Service sent crews from Manningtree, Colchester and Weeley to the scene shortly after receiving the call around 7.30am.

An ambulance crew and ambulance officer attended to the man, who was unconscious and not breathing.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver, a 50-year-old man, was uninjured. 

Essex Police confirmed the car was on fire and emergency services are still at the scene.

The road is closed between the junctions with the A120 and Steam Mill Road and is not expected to reopen until 2.30pm.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
